Lubombo Women’s Cooperative Earns SWASA Certification for Organic Products
In a milestone for local enterprise and women’s empowerment, the Lubombo Eco Products Women’s Cooperative has officially received authorization to sell its organic products in Eswatini’s local markets. The Eswatini Standards Authority (SWASA) today awarded the cooperative a product quality certification, marking a significant achievement for the group.
The Lubombo Women’s Cooperative has the distinction of being the first small and medium-sized enterprise (SMME) in Eswatini to obtain such a certification. This endorsement not only recognizes the quality of their products but also aligns with the national movement towards organic and eco-friendly goods.
“We are immensely proud to be pioneers in Eswatini’s organic market and to lead by example for other SMMEs in the region,” a spokesperson for the cooperative shared.
The certification is expected to open up new market opportunities for the cooperative’s products, allowing them to reach a broader customer base and contribute to the growing demand for natural and sustainable products in Eswatini.
The cooperative’s success has been backed by various organizations including GIZ SADC/Botswana, Sahee, COSPE-Swaziland, and the Ministry of Agriculture Eswatini, which support the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices and women-led businesses in the region.
The Lubombo region and its people celebrate this achievement, recognizing the hard work and determination of the women behind the cooperative. The initiative stands as a testament to the power of women in driving economic growth and promoting environmental sustainability through organic farming.
