Acting Prime Minister Themba Masuku has lifted the ban on the sale of alcohol and religious gathering with effect from 22 March and 19 March 2021 respectively.

The Acting Prime Minister has been speaking during a Press Briefing that was held at the Cabinet on Thursday where he announced the relaxed measures of the partial lockdown.

When lifting the ban on the sale of alcohol, Masuku announced however that Liquor outlets throughout the country will be allowed to operate from Monday to Thursday between 9 am and 5 pm strictly for home consumption.

He encouraged imbibers to exercise caution as they indulge on the drinks by ensuring that they do not share drinks. Masuku said drinking in groups remain prohibited as “they may become super spreaders of the virus”.

The Acting Prime Minsister said the country’s social security service will be vigilant in cracking down the illegal sale and consumption of alcohol.

On unbanning religious gatherings, Masuku announced that they will be allowed under strict observance of a COVID-19 health protocol with effect from 19 March 2021.

“All worshipers are allowed to observe 1.5-meter social distancing, wear a mask at all times and sanitize. Service should not exceed two and half hours as regulated and should be held in well-ventilated spaces,” announced Masuku.

The Acting Prime Minister also announced that the Ministry of Home Affairs will provide the standard operation procedure for religious gatherings inthe country.
