The Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival has introduced the Kwasukasukela Storybook, a fashion concept that invites festivalgoers to interpret African stories, heritage and imagination through contemporary style.
Inspired by the siSwati phrase Kwasukasukela, meaning “Once Upon a Time”, the concept will unfold through a series of style chapters during the festival, taking place from 1 to 2 August 2026 at House on Fire in Malkerns, Eswatini.
Each chapter will explore a different interpretation of African identity and storytelling through fashion. The editorials will draw inspiration from folklore, oral histories, traditional craftsmanship, symbolism, memory and the landscapes that continue to shape communities across the continent.
Festivalgoers are encouraged to create two distinct outfits across the two-day event, using clothing and accessories to tell their own stories. The looks may be inspired by African heroes, heroines, legends and iconic figures from the past, present or imagined future.
Rather than treating fashion as decoration alone, the Kwasukasukela Storybook positions personal style as a living narrative. Participants can reinterpret traditional patterns, fabrics, silhouettes and cultural references in ways that feel contemporary, expressive and personal.
The initiative aligns with the festival’s 2026 theme, “A Return to the African Future”, which explores how heritage, creativity and innovation can come together to shape new African possibilities.
Through the campaign, the festival is encouraging attendees to view their outfits as individual chapters within a larger collective story — one that celebrates where Africans come from while imagining where the continent could go next.

Tickets for the Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival are available through the official Luju Festival website. The event will once again bring together fashion, music, food, culture and creative expression under the festival’s signature Eat, Sway, Love experience.
