Acting Prime Minister Themba Masuku has launched an awareness campaign on Trafficking in Persons as well as a refresher training workshop for law enforcers & members of the Task Force to Combat Trafficking in Persons.

APM: “His Majesty’s Government continues to identify trafficking victims referring them to care while collaborating with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to establish a permanent shelter for victims of human trafficking. The shelter is currently under refurbishment.”

APM: “Victim support in the shelter includes provision of security, psycho-social support, healthcare needs, food & clothing, among other things. Victims do not only need protection, but also appropriate referral & timely rescue.”

APM: “It is clear that Government needs to intensify efforts towards combating people trafficking in the Kingdom. I am happy that Eswatini has been recognized for demonstrating overall increased efforts compared to the previous reporting period in the 2020 Trafficking in Persons Report.”

UN Resident Coordinator Nathalie Ndongoh-Seh: “Each year, the Kingdom of Eswatini loses emaSwati to human trafficking. Along with efforts to address human trafficking in Eswatini, there is a desperate need to strengthen national capacities to detect domestic trafficking.”

U.S. Ambassador Jeanie Marie Maloney (represented): “The US Government wholeheartedly supports Eswatini’s efforts in fighting human trafficking & you should strive to keep on improving. Eswatini is on a good path, with momentum & positive direction – but now is not the time for complacency.”

IOM Representative Jeremias Mendes: “Trafficking in Persons is a human rights violation which increasingly affects the world & Eswatini is not exception. It is also a multi-billion dollar criminal industry in which traffickers generate millions in profit worldwide.”
