Uganda’s presidential challenger Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine says he is still on house arrest 8 days after the elections with riot police and troops stationed outside his home.

In his twitter account bossing with 1.1 million followers, Bobi Wine revealed that he is in the house arrested together with an 18 months baby who had paid visit to her aunt.   He also alleged that they have since run out of food and milk since no one is allowed to leave or come into their compound.

We have run out of food supplies and when my wife tried to pick food from the garden yesterday, she was blocked and assaulted by the soldiers staged in our compound”, read one of Bobi Wine’s tweet.

Bobi Wine also alleged that the United State of America Ambassador stationed in Uganda tried but failed to pay a visit as she was turned away. His party officials and the media are also restricted from seeing him.

On January 14^th, Uganda went to the polls, where a long time serving President Yoweri Museveni was declared a winner. However, Bobi Wine refused to concede defeat alleging that the elections were rigged.

He said he has a video evidence of the military stuffing ballot boxes, casting ballots for people and chasing voters away from polling stations. Museveni has dismissed the claims of vote-rigging.

However, Bobi Wine called for Uganda’s development partners not to recognize the results of the presidential election which he alleged were undermined by widespread illegalities.

Locally, Acting Prime Minister Themba Masuku congratulated long-serving Uganda’s President Museveni for being re-elected in to office. This is contained in a statement that was read during the national radio’s news bulletins. Masuku expressed interest in continuing the Eswatini-Uganda bilateral relations.

 In South Africa, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), warned South African President Cyril Ramaphosa not to send a congratulatory message to Uganda.

“We call on the South African government to restrain itself from the temptation of issuing any purported congratulatory message to Mr. Museveni. We know the blood and business bond of President Ramaphosa and the corrupt elites of Ugandan politics, and urge President Ramaphosanever to act in the nepotic manner to please in-laws”, read the EEF statement.
