The Council of Swaziland Churches says the trial of the arrested Members of Parliament Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube must be prioritized as promised in order to fix the injustices suffered by their contituencies.
The two MPs we arrested and accused of jointly acting with Siphofaneni MP Mduduzi Simelane to incite people of Eswatini to revolt against the constitutionally established Government of Eswatini.
In a statement dated 28 September, Chairman of the Council of Swaziland Churches Reverend Bhekibandla Magongo said the arrest of the MPs is unprecedented in the country and draws everyone’s attention.
He recalled that the MPs were promised a speedy trial something that has not happened thus far as the MPs still languish in prison.
Rev Magongo also revealed that the Church body is concern that parliament business is continuing yet there are some constituencies that are not represented.
” This is tantamount to those groups of people being segregated as they are not allowed an opportunity like all people in the country. Due to this injustices suffered by the people from the three constituencies, the trial of the MPs should be prioritized as earlier promised so that the injustice already suffered is ameliorated,” read the statement.
The Chairperson also revealed that the Church has noticed that the continued arrest of the MPs has began to have spill over effects in that students from a number of schools are protesting and boycotting classes calling for the release of the MPs.
He said the Church is also concern about the ongoing arson attacks on schools and government offices and they plead with teachers, parents and children to listen to each other and talk about the issues of concern.
The Reverend advised that the violence and arson attacks wiĺl not be a solution
