Churches in the country have since recommended that the excess of funds under the Recontruction fund be Channelled towards assisting those who were injured and those who losts their lives during the civil unrests that took place in June and July.
The Reconstruction Fund was unveiled by His Majesty King Mswati III during the recently held people’s parliament (Sibaya). The fund was launched last month as an intervention that aims at assisting those whose properties were affected during the unrests.
The Fund received close to E1 billion from various companies while it has been disclosed that the property that was destroyed is worth E800 000.
In a statement dated 28 September, that was issued by Rev. Bhekibandla Magongo on behalf of the Council of Swaziland Churches, Magongo revealed that the church has noted that there is no mention of assistance going to or in the pipe line for those that were injured and the families of those that lost their lives.
“Nothing is mentioned on what needs to be done to assist those who suffered injuries and those who lost breadwinner. It is from that premise that we, recommend that since there is an excess of funds from the reparation collection, such excess be channelled towards assisting those who were injured and those who lost their lives ones,” read the statement.
Magongo also mentioned that they have noted that it is challenging to assist the injured and bereaved considering the information appearing in the media regarding the exact number of people affected by the unrests.
He said as the church they are calling for an intensive investigation that will look at the number as well as the people behind the injuries and deaths.
Magongo reiterated that the church is also calling for an inclusive dialogue to try and resolve the problems engulfing the country.
“As the Council of Swaziland churcheswe recommend, as we have always done, that let there be an all inclusive dialogue to try and resolve the problems engulfing the country currently,” read the statement.
Magongo added that the engagements will assist in stopping some of the wrongful acts taking place these days as everyone will be heard and a tailor made solution will be found for the problems and complains in the country.
