The Eswatini Commission on Human Rights and Public Administration/Integrity has called on the Royal Eswatini Police Service National Commissioner to deal with the officers that we captured assaulting and hurling insults to a public transport worker on Monday.
This follows the video showing three police officers assaulting and hurling insults to a public transport worker. The video was widely shared on Social Media. This was after a protest that took place in Manzini on Monday where public transport workers were accused of engaging in an unlawful protest and further forcing other kombi operators to stop working.
The Eswatini Commission on Human Rights and Public Administration/Integrity issued a statement calling for the National Commissioner to intervene on the matter by dealing with the officers accordingly and further publicly condemn the officers’ behavior.
The Commission revealed that it has been dedicating its time to sensitize members of the REPS on the rights of suspect and the human apprehension of people who happen to be in conflict with the law adding that the conduct of the police that were captured in the video was a disapointment to the commission.
“Nonetheless, we will implore the National Commissioner to come out and condemn such behavior of the officers and further deal with the concerned officers and further deal with the concerned officers accordingly,” wrote the commission on its Facebook Page.
However, the Commission highlighted that they are still not privy to what transpired during the protest that took place in Manzini and Matsapha except for the video clip that circulated online.
The Human Right Comission was not the only organization that did not take lightly the conduct of the officers as Female Human rights activists under the banner of Swaziland Rural Women Assembly (SRWA) convened at the Manzini Police Service in protest against the conduct of the police and further called for the suspension of the officers that were captured on the video.
