The Economic Freedom Fighters of Swaziland (EFFSWA) has declined an alleged meeting invite from the Shiselweni Regional Administration Offices located in Nhlangano.

In a statement released on Tuesday and seen by this publication, the political party revealed that they received an invitation together with the Swaziland Youth Congress (SWAYOCO) for a meeting scheduled for April 21, 2021 (today).

It is worth mentioning that both political parties were behind the April 12, uprising petition deliveries in Mbabane, Nhlangano, and Vuvulane which resulted in more at least 10 members being detained by the police.

EFFSWA revealed that they are not going to attend the scheduled meeting because it was availed at short notice without a clearly articulated agenda.

The party accused the government of using these meetings to target political activists and further torture them in order to silence democratic calls in the country.

“We like to remind the nation that the last time we got an invite from Tinkhundla Government officials, our interim President was arrested and tortured by the state apparatus upon declining that invite from the National Commissioner,” articulated the party’s National Spokesperson.

“We cannot jump because the government has told us to jump. As an organization, the only call we will adhere to is a call from the Government’s Negotiation Team that will be aimed at discussing the change of power from the Tinkhundla Government to back to the people of Swaziland,” he added.

The party also urged the government to consider communicating with them through the use of letters until they are assured that they will “no longer be tortures, and subjected into inhuman as well as degrading treatment at the hands of the state police”.
