The Economic Freedom Fighters of Swaziland Student Command says it will soon launch a plan aimed at forcing the government to award scholarships to all student that had applied.
This was revealed by Sibusiso Gwebu, an EFFSWA member designated to facilitating the student body.
“As student Command, we are of the view that the government should award scholarships to all candidates who have been accepted at a tertiary institution”, said Gwebu.
He was reacting to news that the Eswatini government awarded scholarships to 3 600 students out of 4 100 students who had applied this year.
To that effect, Gwebu said the EFF Student Command they reject the government excuse that there are limited funds as they observed that the government prioritizes building useless expensive hotels and parliaments over the future of the nation.
“We reject such an approach strongly and categorically. We are yet to initiate a program of action against the illegitimate government over the future of the over 500 Swazi it put at stake”, said Gwebu.
The EFF Student Command is an EFFSWA body focussing on growing the EFFSWA in the institutions of higher learning and post secondary. It was also mandated to work with students unions to advance the students struggles including free education for all.
Meanwhile, the Swaziland National Union of students (SNUS) recently launched a job and scholarship for all campaign. This is the campaign that led the union leading over 2 000 students to deliver a petition to the Prime Minister and Minister of Labor’s office where they were demanding scholarships for all deserving students.
Efforts to reach the unions Acting Communications and publicity Officer proved futile at the time of compiling this report.
