Siphofaneni Member of parliament Mduduzi “Magawugawu’ simelane has publicly confirmed that the current parliament is indeed pushing for the country to have an elected Prime Minister.
The outspoken MP was speaking during a press conference that was held on Sunday where he clarified that this is not only the Members of parliament’s ambition but is what the nation at large needs.
“No one in the country still wants an appointed Prime Minister not because there is something wrong with the appointing hand but because the appointed person turns not to understand the pains of the people,” clarified Simelane.
He said the country has been in appointed Prime Minister experiment for so long but it has yielded no positive results which is why the currenlt parliament was pushing to be led by an elected person who knows the pain of campaigning.
He added that this may also give the people power to fire that person by not electing him or her at the end of his or her tenure.
Simelane also added that having an elected Prime Minister can also eliminate the tendency of firing or shooting people willy nilly as he will be accountable to the people who elected him or her.
He also accused appointed Prime Ministers of not caring about what the people were saying and whether they are hungry or not saying it is because they know that the people are not responsible for placing them in the Prime Minister’s role.
Themba Masuku who is currently the Acting Prime Minister had last week Wednesday called a press briefing where he revealed that the government had instructed the Police service to disperse large gathering that are in breach of the COVID-19 regulations.
The Acting Prime Minister’s statement is currently believed to be the reason why the police service invaded a memorial service where more than 1 000 mourners had gathered to celebrate the life of Thabani Nkomonye who is suspected to have died at the hands of the police.
The police dispersed the mourners using teargas canisters which resulted in some of the mourners seeking medical treatment after inhaling the teargas smoke. it did not end there as some of the mourners are believed to have turned violant and ended up vandalizing a police post that was in close proximity to where the memorial service was held.
