MBABANE – In his second speaking session, the Honourable Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, HRH Prince Lonkhokhela, delivered a compelling presentation on Eswatini’s energy priorities, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to energy security and investment in local power generation.
Prioritizing Energy Security
The Minister underscored that Eswatini’s primary energy goal is to achieve energy security by increasing local electricity generation capacity. Currently, the country imports a significant portion of its electricity, and the government is actively seeking investment to develop and expand domestic energy production.
“Eswatini’s main priority is to have energy security, and this can only be achieved by increasing local generation,” said HRH Prince Lonkhokhela, highlighting the need for sustainable and reliable energy sources.
An Open Business Environment
HRH Prince Lonkhokhela reaffirmed Eswatini’s position as an attractive destination for investment, citing the long-standing presence of US companies as evidence of a conducive business climate. He pointed to multinational corporations such as Coca-Cola, Kellogg’s, and Mondelez, which have successfully operated in Eswatini for decades.
“The fact that these companies continue to do business in Eswatini is a testament to the country’s strong investment environment,” the Minister stated, inviting more US-based firms to explore the opportunities within the energy sector.
Opportunities in the Energy Sector
As part of Eswatini’s push for energy independence, the Minister extended an open invitation to American investors to participate in the country’s energy transformation. Key opportunities include:
- Renewable Energy Projects – Expansion of solar, wind, and hydroelectric power generation.
- Public-Private Partnerships – Collaborations to develop energy infrastructure.
- Grid Modernization – Investments in improving electricity transmission and distribution networks.
With Eswatini’s growing focus on energy self-sufficiency and sustainable solutions, the government is optimistic that increased local generation will not only enhance security but also contribute to economic growth and industrialization.
Strategic Vision for Energy Development
The Honourable Minister emphasized that Eswatini is committed to aligning with global trends in clean energy and sustainability. By attracting strategic partnerships and leveraging international expertise, the country aims to reduce its reliance on energy imports while fostering innovation in the sector.
As discussions continue, Eswatini remains open to forging partnerships that will drive its energy ambitions forward, ensuring a stable, reliable, and sustainable power supply for future generations.
