Home Affairs Minister in South Africa Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi has announced the re-opening of selected land border gates effective Monday, February 15.
In total, twenty border gates will be opened including five (5) connecting Eswatini and the Republic of South Africa.
The border gates were closed in January after recording a large volume of numbers which in turn developed into being a COVID-19 super spreader with more than 100 cases confirmed at Beitbridge border alone, a border gate connecting South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Other busiest land port of entities that will open includes Lebombo connecting South Africa and Mozaqmbie among other.
Meanwhile, border gates connecting the Kingdom of Eswatini and South Africa are Oshoek (Ngwenya), Golela (Lavumisa), Jeppes Reef (Matsamo), Mananga, and Mahamba.
Making the announcement, Motsoaledi said anyone arriving at the boarder with faked COVID-19 test results would be turned back and barred from South Africa for at least five years.
He appealed to travelers to ensure that they have all the required travel documents, including valid COVID-19 tests when crossing or leaving South Africa.
