Pro-democracy Member of Parliament who is now in exile Mduduzi Simelane has announced that there are plans to deliver petitions in all embassies in the Kingdom of Eswatini, as democracy calls intensifies in the country.
Simelane made the announcement during the recent family meeting that was hosted by Swaziland News on Monday.
The announcement follows a successful and peaceful petition delivery exercize that was held last week Thursday where Emaswati asked for the United Nation’s intervention on the stand-off between the Eswatini government and the nation.
Among other things, the petition also called for an investigation on the alleged killing of Emaswati during the recent unrest with the aim of bringing perpetrators to the international Criminal Court.
During the recent family meeting, Simelane announced that this exercise will continue and see all embassies in the country being petition.
He said plans on this will be revealed as the forces of change are still consolidating plans and are in talk with the next embassy that will be petitioned and on which date.
The outspoken MP revealed that the forces of changes are targeting these embassies because they know that there will be limited interference from the Eswatini Government especially through the Royal Eswatini Polices Services.
Simelane urged Emaswati to double the numbers on the ground pointing out that the last petition delivery should be attended by at least 60 000 people.
Simelane also told Emaswati to continue piling pressure on the country’s system pointing out that what they are doing is working.
“Maswati Lamahle, don’t dare give up. We can not push this hard, we can not have all the gains and then be discouraged today,” said the Siphofaneni MP.
Simelane said the monarchy and the Eswatini government has been put under pressure like never seen before.
Outlining some of the successes from the campaign, Simelane alleged that one embassy in the country has given King Mswati an altimatum to democratize.
He said he cannot reveal which Embasy for now but can say it in confidence that the King has even been given timelines to democratize. Simelane said the government may try to take this to parliament and make some amendments.
Simelane added that Botswana President Masisi who is also the outgoing chairperson for TROIKA has been engaged about his TROIKA report from the fact finding mission.
He said one of the embassies have also written a letter to South Africa as the incoming chair of the TROIKA to make follow ups on the Eswatini matters.
Simelane also made reference to a joint statement that was issued on 24 July 2021 which was signed by United State of America, United Kingdome, European Union and the Republic of Chains Taiwan.
Simelane said this was a first of it kind statement especially to be signed by Taiwan calling for dialogue in the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Simelane said the United Nation after receiving the petition released three statements. These statements were issued by the UN General Secretary, UN Africa and UN SADC all calling for the Kingdom of Eswatini to democratize.
Simelane revealed that international organisations are currently lobbying the Commonwealth to bring sanctions to the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Lastly, Simelane said a Minister of Foreign Affairs in the united Kingdom will be deployed to the country to engage King Mswati III about what is currently going on in the country especially the violations on human rights.
Simelane said he articulated the above point so that Emaswati can know that the world is watching and is already actioning on the matters of Eswatini.
