As Eswatini Government continues to demand 2020 school fees from parents, Siphofaneni Member of parliament Mduduzi Simelane has vowed to continue backing parents on this matter.

The outspoken MP took to his Facebook on Saturday where he posted a front page for the Saturday Observer highlighting headlines about the repayment of last year’s school fees.

Ministry of Education and Training Principal Secretary Bertram Stewart reportedly said parents must pay for the last year’s school fees as pupils received lessons through radio and other forums.  He said parents can make arrangements for term of payments with Head Teachers.

In reaction, Siphofaneni MP assured Emaswati that they shall cross the Jordan tomorrow just like the they crossed the Red Sea Yesterday.

“Some extremists think we are insane when we say something is wrong with some people. Thank you Saturday Observer for bolding this so that even those blinded by loyalty can see. How long must we cry until we are taken seriously? How much must we pay, how much must our people bleed?” wrote Simelane

The Siphofaneni MP has previously raised the same concerns in parliament where he asked how the government is demanding payments from parents for a service they did not enjoy.

Parents and the government has been at loggerheads on this matter for months now. The Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) threw its weight as an Education stakeholder saying that parents should not be made to pay last year’s school fees but only the government should because Education is a public good and therefore should be state-funded.

Schools will open for the 2021 school calendar using a rotational and blended approach on the 29th March 2021.
