The Eswatini Government will assist households without coping capacity to rebuild their houses that were damaged by Cyclone Eloise, Acting Prime Minister Themba Masuku revealed during a Press Briefing that was held at the Cabinet Offices on Friday.

Masuku said the government has set aside a budget estimated at E180 million that will assist these victims.

“Government will also assist households without the coping capacity to rebuilding their damaged houses. The cost of rehabilitation is estimated at E180 million, a portion of which will government is making available immediately,” said Acting Prime Minister Themba Masuku.
 

The Acting Prime Minister also announced that the government has also approved a plan to rehabilitate the damaged roads and bridges that were destroyed by the cyclone countrywide and some of the rehabilitation projects are already being implemented in some of the badly affected areas.

He said the government will accelerate strategies to create weather resilience programs in the Kingdom of Eswatini.

The recent Cyclone left the country’s infrastructure such as roads and bridges damaged.  Mudslides and rockfalls along roads and some roads were experienced in some parts of the country during the above-normal rains.

66 pumps and several water reticulation facilities were damaged affecting irrigation capacity and access to potable water in some of the country’s urban areas including Mbabane.
