His Majesty King Mswati III has disclosed that he recently tested positive for COVID-19 and has since commanded the Eswatini government to procure a drug that cured him so that it can be used by the nation.

His Majesty was speaking on Friday when delivering this year’s Speech from the Throne which marks the official opening of the country’s parliament.  

King Mswati III said he was diagnosed with the virus on the first week of January 2021.

He sent his gratitude to the President of the Republic of China Taiwan for sending through a medication called the Anti-Bacterial Drug which he described to be usful in the fight against COVID-19.

“We discovered this medicine after testing positive for COVID-19 in the first week of January 2021. I am grateful to the President of the Republic of China Taiwan for sending through this medication to help treat me,” said His Majesty King Mswati III.

He said he believes that his testing positive was to bring to light this medication. He said he intended to publically declare his COVID-19 status but later discovered that there is no longer a trace of the virus in his body.

He said he has therefore commanded the Eswatini government to procure the drug due to its effectiveness. However, the King also disclosed that the drug requires one to use it for duration of 10 day and he then remained in hospital to satisfy the doctor’s wishes.
