Day 3 of the Knowledge Management and Malabo Meeting brought together experts and stakeholders to delve deeper into the status of Knowledge Management (KM) initiatives at various levels, from continental to regional and national.
The session commenced with a thought-provoking presentation by Mr. Benjamin Abugri from the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), who provided insights into the current state of KM at the continental level. Mr. Abugri’s presentation shed light on the progress made and the challenges encountered in harnessing knowledge for agricultural development across Africa.
Following Mr. Abugri’s presentation, Mrs. Bridget Kakuwa-Kasongamulilo from the Centre for Coordination of Agricultural Research and Development for Southern Africa (CCARDESA) offered a detailed overview of KM initiatives within the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Mrs. Kakuwa-Kasongamulilo’s presentation highlighted the importance of regional collaboration and knowledge sharing in addressing agricultural challenges within the SADC region.
The session also featured Mr. Mfanaleni Mkhatshwa from the University of Eswatini (UNESWA), who provided valuable insights into the progress of KM initiatives within Eswatini. Mr. Mkhatshwa’s presentation focused on the efforts being made to leverage knowledge for agricultural development at the national level, emphasizing the role of education and research institutions in driving innovation and capacity building.
Wrapping up today’s session, Mr. Bongani Mvubu, the Information and Communication Knowledge Management (ICKM) Focal Point Person for CCARDESA in Eswatini, presented the KM strategy for the Department of Agricultural Research and Specialist Services. Mr. Mvubu’s presentation outlined key objectives and action plans aimed at enhancing knowledge sharing and collaboration within the agricultural sector in Eswatini.
The Day 3 discussions underscored the critical role of Knowledge Management in advancing agricultural development agendas, both at the continental and national levels. As the meeting progresses, stakeholders remain committed to leveraging knowledge and expertise to accelerate progress towards the Malabo Commitments and the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).
