The country’s largest dam, Maguga, and Driekoppies Dam are now spilling. Residents in nearby areas and water users downstream have been warned of an additional increase in river flows and to take further measures required for their own safety and for the safety of their property.

The warning was issued by the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) in a Facebook post that was published on Friday.

In this post, the Agency raised concern regarding the number of people who passed away due to drowning, pointing out that the numbers mean that people are still not aware of the dangers posed by flooded rivers and dams.

“Every drowning death is one too many. Unfortunately, this year’s statistics paint a picture that suggests people are still not aware of the dangers that flooded rivers and spilling dams present. “

“NDMA would like to send out a stern warning to all emaSwati to take all necessary precautions when approaching flooded rivers and over flowing low-level bridges,” read the NDMA’s post in part.
