A somber atmosphere has descended upon the football community, particularly at Manzini Wanderers, with the tragic news of the passing of defender Kwanele Dlamini. The New Year has ushered in a dark cloud for both the club and the Dlamini family, as they grapple with the untimely loss of the player.
Kwanele Dlamini is reported to have succumbed to chest pains while participating in a stokvel game at Lavumisa on Sunday. The news follows closely on the heels of another sorrowful event – the passing of Mukelo Nkambule of Denver Sundowns the previous week under unclear circumstances.
Berger Nxumalo, the General Manager of Manzini Wanderers, confirmed the tragic occurrence, sharing that they were informed of Dlamini’s passing by his uncle on Sunday evening at 11 pm.
“He complained of chest pains during the game and was substituted. A few minutes later, he was rushed to the hospital, where doctors made every effort to help him, but unfortunately, he couldn’t make it,” Nxumalo lamented.
The club officially announced the young player’s demise on their Facebook page, expressing profound sadness and extending condolences to Dlamini’s family. Premier League players joined in sharing their tributes on social media platforms.
“With great sadness, Manzini Wanderers Football Club informs you of the untimely passing of our player Kwanele ‘Namnede’ Dlamini. Our prayers are with his family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace. More details about the funeral will follow after a family meeting,” the official post reads.
Kwanele Dlamini, known as ‘Namnede,’ had become a regular player for Manzini Wanderers after joining the Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe-led side at the beginning of the season, having previously played for Denver Sundowns and Ubombo Flyers. The football community mourns the loss of a promising talent, and the club plans to organize a fitting farewell in the wake of this tragic event.
