In a strategic move to revamp its squad, Mbabane Highlanders is poised to release three players, namely Bonginkosi ‘Manyovu’ Dlamini, Musa ‘Lagos’ Dlamini, and Siboniso ‘Mane’ Lukhele, as confirmed by an insider within the Highlanders camp. The decision, attributed to the team’s technical evaluation led by Dumsani ‘DU’ Makhanya, reflects a determination to infuse fresh talent that aligns with the club’s objectives.
Highly paid striker Manyovu has fallen short of expectations, prompting the club’s decision, while Lagos, a key contributor in the previous season, is believed to have not met the team’s standards. ‘Mane’ Lukhele’s playing time and effectiveness have been hampered by persistent injuries, contributing to his impending release.
The source revealed that the players will participate in the upcoming Ingwenyama Cup but will be actively replaced before the transfer window closes. The club acknowledges the need for reinforcement in attacking options and aims to bring in two or three offensive players.
Soccer teams make such decisions for various reasons, including performance issues, financial considerations, tactical adjustments, and squad depth. The move to release players is a strategic element in team management, ensuring long-term success.
Mbabane Highlanders’ Public Relations Officer (PRO) Kenneth Dlamini, when questioned about the reports, emphasized that no official information had been received regarding the players’ release. He clarified that the only confirmed departures were Matamela Ndou and Noko Malekane.
‘Lagos,’ having made his mark at Green Mamba, played a pivotal role in Highlanders’ fourth-place finish last season, while ‘Manyovu’ joined during the previous season as one of the highest-paid players.
Highlanders, gearing up for the Last 32 round against Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows in the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents (SMVAF) sponsored tournament, will face the challenge without first-choice goalkeeper Khanyakwezwe Shabalala. The team is preparing for the second window registration period opening on Monday.
The released players join a list of others transfer-listed this season, including Sandile ‘Nkomishi’ Ginindza (Mbabane Swallows), Manqoba Vilakati (Nsingizini Hotspurs), and Sibusiso Tfwala (Nsingizini Hotspurs). The team’s management remains focused on reshaping the squad for improved performance in the upcoming competitions.
