House of Assembly Speaker Petros Mavimbela says regime change is not part of the parliament’s mandate as they have not been tasked by the people to debate such issues.

The current parliament which may from time to time referred to as the most vocal parliament had not minced words about the government’s failure in terms of service delivery resulting in some MPs hinting that a regime change is necessary in order to overcome the challenges faced by the poor masses of the country.   

On the 5^th of March 2021, Hosea Member of Parliament Bacede Mabuza called for MPs to take a lead in removing the current system of government and usher the country into a new democratic dispensation. This was during the debate of a motion by Lobamba Lomdzala MP Marwick Khumalo who successfully moved that Cabinet be compelled to reverse the extension of the partial lockdown.

However, the Parliament Speaker told Saturday Observer that parliament will continue to promote the Tinkhundla system and they will hear from the people on what they wanted to be delivered by the Tinkhundla system which he described as the backbone of every Liswati.

“Regime change is not part of our mandate and the electorate has not sent us to debate about this, thus we do not agree to it since it is not part of the Tinkhundla system of governance,” said Mavimbela as quoted by the weekend publication.

He emphasized that the system of governance under the Tinkhundla was what they represented as parliamentarians.
