A video of law enforcement officers shooting and assaulting an unarmed civilians in broad day light during Day 2 of the transport operators demonstrations in Mbabane has emerged and is making rounds on Social Media.
The officers believed to be from the Operational Support Service Unit (OSSU) were captured in a video shooting live ammunition rounds and further kicking an already limping civilian.
This is not an isolated incited in the Kingdom of Eswatini which is faced by historic political and constitutional protests dating back to June 2021.
In this months, the police in a joint mission with members of the Eswatini Umbofto Defence Force (EUDF) allegedly shot and killed over 80 protesting civilians. This figures were revealed by the members of progressive forces, however the Eswatini government told the United Nations that only 36 people died during those riots.
On another incident, a Lomahasha based police officer shot and killed two civilians for having dissenting views on how the country should be governed. The incident was confirmed by the Police National Commissioner William Dlamini who fired the police officer instantly.
Recently, 2 unarmed people who were alleged to be copper theft were also shot by the police, an act that was confirmed by the Police Information and Communication Officer Phindile Vilakati.
