Season 17 of South African Idols will have a completely different composition as auditions for the show will be held online, the first time in seventeen years.

Due to the ongoing pandemic and regulations put in place to curb the spread of the virus in South Africa, Idols hopefuls in that country will have to send their 30 seconds audition in order to be considered for the show.

This is contained in a statement that has been released and published on Idols SA social media platforms.

“For season 17, there is a positive aspect in the restrictions that comes with COVID-19. All eligible hopefuls from all corners of our country (South Africa) can enter without worrying about getting to the audition venue,” read the statement.

According to the statement, this will give people who could not get to the designated venues an opportunity they have have been dreaming of but could not access due to limited resources.

The audition phase will open this coming Friday, 29^th January 2021, and will close on the 14^th February 2021 or when entries reach the 15 000 mark.
