Local hip hop artist Sarnilo has teamed up with South African legend Zuluboy to release a new song dedicated to their mothers. The song, titled ‘Sharon’, is a tribute to the unconditional love, gratitude and respect that they have for their mothers and mother figures in their lives.
The song, which will be released on Friday, May 12, 2023, is a collaboration that happened by chance, according to Sarnilo. She said she met Zuluboy at a studio and they instantly hit it off. She said she learned a lot from him during the recording session and described him as one of the greatest lyricists in the industry.
Sarnilo, who is signed under Antidote Music, is a songwriter, rapper and poet who has made a name for herself in the music scene through her captivating lyrics and versatility. She is known for incorporating both siSwati and Chichewa in her music, as she is born of a Malawian mother and a liSwati father.
Sarnilo said the song ‘Sharon’ was inspired by her mother, who has been her support system and rock her whole life. She said using her gift to dedicate a song to her was the least she could do, as she deserves so much more. She said the song is about love, gratitude and respect for all the mothers and mother figures in the world.
Antidote Music co-founder and co-director Mmeli Hlanze said they were thrilled and honoured to have Zuluboy on a song with one of their stars, Sarnilo. He said Zuluboy is one of the most accomplished and respected poets and rappers in South African music history. He said the song is a representation of a love that everyone has for their mothers or anyone that has been a mother figure in their lives.
The song ‘Sharon’ is expected to be a hit among hip hop fans and music lovers in general, as it celebrates Mother’s Day in a unique and heartfelt way. Sarnilo and Zuluboy have shown their appreciation for their mothers through their music, and have encouraged others to do the same. The song will be available on all digital platforms on Friday.
