The Ministry of Education and Training has forwarded documents to the cabinet requesting to resume face to face classes across all Grades from the 23^rd February 2021.

The document seen by this publication suggests that teachers will open on the 16^th February 2021 to start preparations for the re-opening of schools and will be followed by the return of students of all Grades from February.

Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Training confirmed the proposal according to reports carried by one of the country’s dailies.

“If cabinet approves the proposal then yes, school will be reopened on the date proposed in the document and if it is approved with amendments, then we will have to implement those amendments,” said the PS as quoted by the publication.

The proposal suggests that the first term will resume on the 23^rd February and close on the 30^th April 2021.

The second term will commerce from May 4^th and end on August 20. However, if the proposal will be approved without changes, there will be a mid-term break that will take place on June 24-25.

The Ministry also proposed that the final term must start from September 7, go for a mid-term break in October 28-29 and close December 17.

On tertiary institutions, the document suggested that they should re-open as per each institution’s academic calendar observing the COVID-19 guidelines.
