The Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) has invited all teachers to a petition delivery exercise that will be preceded by a public sensitization march that will commence at 10 am from the Coronation Park, in Mbabane to the office of the Acting Prime Minister on Wednesday.
The SNAT Secretary General Sikelela Dlamini released a statement on Saturday informing teachers of this exercise which is about the non-employment of teachers in schools.
Dlamini revealed that the teacher’s association held a General Council meeting where a deep analysis of several purely professional and sectorial issues that affect teachers and learners in the country was made.
“Chief amongst these issues was the issue of contracted teachers and failure by the government of Swaziland to renew contracts of hundreds of colleagues whose contracts had expired,” narrated the SG.
He added during the meeting, it transpired that there were unfilled teaching posts and that learners were left without teachers in many schools since the re-opening of schools.
Dlamini further revealed that SNAT had several round table meetings with the government through the ministry of Education and Training while preparing for the re-opening of schools where it was also stated that it is not clear that the safe re-opening of schools depended on the hiring of an adequate number of teachers.
“SNAT NEC also had an opportunity to meet the head of the government Mr. Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku wherein such challenges were tabled,” added Dlamini.
