The Swaziland National Union of Students (SNU) has called upon all students in the Kingdom of Eswatini to convene at the Ministry of Labor and Social Security tomorrow to demand the release of first year’s allowances indefinitely.

The student union released a statement where they expressed that one of their duties as the student body is to defend the students at all times, no matter the cost on the ground.

“It is for that reason that as a union we issue out a directive on the issue of pending allowances. Students in Swaziland are informed that on Wednesday 3 March at 09:00 am we meet at the Ministry of Labor and Security to demand the release of first year’s allowances indefinitely,” read the statement that was signed by the union’s Secretary-General Sacolo Bafanabakhe.

This statement comes few weeks after the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Labor and Social Security Thulani Mkhaliphi announced that there will be delays on the release of Assistance Allowances for first-year students due to work disruptions that were caused by the COVID-19.

He however assured affected students and parents that the allowances will be disbursed not later than 31 March 2021.
