The Taiwan Africa Vegetable Initiative (TAVI) recently celebrated its notable achievements and outlined the next steps for its continued expansion in Eswatini during an inception workshop held in the kingdom. This pivotal gathering marked the transition from the successful completion of TAVI’s first phase to the preparatory stage for the launch of Phase 2 in 2025.

Held under the theme “Reflect, Plan, Act,” the workshop brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including local and international organizations, government officials, and food ambassadors. The event served as a platform to review past successes and to strategize on future endeavors aimed at transforming the agricultural landscape in Eswatini.

“Reflecting on our journey through TAVI Phase One, we are inspired by the collaborative efforts that have led to tangible improvements in the vegetable sector here in Eswatini,” stated a spokesperson from the World Vegetable Center. “With the support of our dedicated partners and the Eswatini government, we are ready to enter a transition period that will prepare us for an even more impactful Phase 2.”

The workshop emphasized the critical role of innovative solutions and community empowerment in driving the initiative forward. Participants expressed a renewed commitment to enhancing food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices throughout the region.

The Eswatini Government and the Ministry of Agriculture have been instrumental in facilitating the progress of TAVI, with additional support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ROC (Taiwan) and Taiwan’s representation in Eswatini. This international partnership underscores the global commitment to fostering healthy communities through improved access to nutritious vegetables.

As TAVI moves into its transition phase, the focus will be on leveraging the successes of Phase One to set a robust foundation for the next phase. “The journey from vision to reality continues to be paved with dedication and collaboration,” added the spokesperson. “With Phase 2 on the horizon, we are poised to amplify our impact and empower more communities across Eswatini and beyond.”
