The Kingdom of China Taiwan has today handed over medical equipment worth over E9.5 million towards Phase II of the Taiwan Maternal and Infant Improvement project.
The project aims to increase the accessibility of maternal & infant health care services in the country.
Phase I of the project received support worth over E6 Million & started in 2016 in the Manzini Region while Phase II began in 2019 & covers 85 health facilities in the country. Among the donated equipment are ultrasound machines, radiant warmers & vital signs monitors, among others.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Eswatini government was the Minister of Health Senate Lizzie Nkosi who sent the government’s appreciation towards the support and gesture displayed by the Republic of China Taiwan. She said the relationship between the two countries has seen the Kingdom of Eswatini benefiting immensely through a number of initiatives even beyond the health sector.
Meanwhile, Taiwan Ambassador Jeremy Liang revealed that the project has successfully increased the rate for women who received postnatal care within 7-14 days after delivering in the targeted areas from 22% in 2016 to 90% in 2019.
” I have confidence that by the end of the project, all women & children in the country will have benefitted,” added the Ambassodor.
