The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has been accused of segregating teachers that were trained at private institutions something which demeans the worth of education in the country.
This follows an announcement by the TSC, calling for those who graduated with Primary Teacher’s Diploma in 2017 and 2018 to submit their applications for employment considerations. However, students that were asked to do so were only those who graduated at Ngwane Teachers College, William Pitcher Teachers’ College, and Southern Africa Nazarene University (SANU).
This did not sit well on unemployed teachers who graduated from private tertiaries as they felt like the government is segragating and undermining them.
In a post that is circulating on Social Media, Wear Your Graduation Gown (WYGG) Founder and Chairperson Sithembiso Dlamini did not mince words as he took the commission head-on accusing the commision of undermining and segregating students.
“We are already a divided nation, but it seems as if the TSC has an intention of doing more damage. Why even go public with it when even the Laws (The TSC Act of 1982) that governs your operations puts it clear for everyone to see,” lamented Dlamini.
He alleged that calling only those who graduated from the government-subsidized tertiaries was a crime against humanity.
“Dividing people while we are going through such crises as a nation must never be taken for granted. Myself and WYGG will not take this for granted. This is demeaning the worth of education and rendering useless the efforts being made by the poor masses of our people by paying their own tertiary fees,” he added.
Meanwhile, Simanga Mamba, the Chairperson of TCS when speaking on the national radio on Tuesday said the TSC hasn’t started segregating students as those who get a fair chance of getting employed.
He, however, explained that the government has its own colleges where teachers are trained and pays for the teachers and the infrastructure that is being used there.
“I want to emphasize that the government has her own intuitions for training teachers but we do hire teachers trained from the other institutions,” said Mamba.
The Chairperson also said the that the Commission cannot call all unemployed teachers at once adding that they will call students from the other tertiaries after they are done with the ones that have been called.
Mamba raised concern about the number of enrollments in the private institutions adding that these institutions were summoned and notified that the teaching profession is now saturated. He added that the colleges were advised not to train Primary school teachers because there are no posts any more.
