The Ubombo Sugar Employees in Big Bend today engaged in a strike action calling for their employer to increase salaries by 11.45%.
On Thursday, images of the protesting workers flooded the Social Media networks. The workers were seen singing and chanting political slogans.
News on Africa Eswatini Edition spoke to a worker who preferred to speak on conditions of anonymity for fear of victimization.
The worker confirmed that the workers are indeed on strike because of a deadlock between them and their employer.
He said the employees want the employer to increase their salaries by 11.45% while the employer has offered only a 5% salary increment.
The employee said they started their protest today and are expected to continue doing so until their demands are met.
