Health Minister Senate Lizzie Nkosi says the Health practitioners from the UK Emergency Medical Team will be deployed in bigger hospitals that are taking care of moderate and severely ill COVID-19 patients including those on oxygen and ventilators.

She said they will also help the country’s clinicians improve their skills and medical systems in the COVID-19 management.

The Health Minister revealed this through a statement that was released on Sunday where she expressed her gratitude to the United Kingdom Government for deploying the team of experts through the UK Emergency Medical programme.

Nkosi said the assist came at a time when the country is faced with the second wave of COVID-19 which sees the Kingdom of Eswatini recording an average of 200 confirmed cases and more than 10 deaths per day she said overwhelmed the country’s health capacity to respond well to the virus.

The Health Minister said the deployed team consist of 11 health expects who will be hand-on, working in close relationship with the national counterparts in the COVID-19 Treatment facilities.

“They will be providing on the job training and mentoring on effective case management and guidance for high quality and technically sound context specific to national COVID-19 response activities,” narrated the Senate.

She also revealed that the support team will also assist the Ministry of Health to assess and ensure that critical case management equipments are functional and are effectively deployed for the COVID-19 response, especially the areas of oxygen demand and supply.
