The United Nation says its stand in solidarity with the people of Eswatini and is working to help restore peace to the nation.
This is contained in a statement that was released by the organization on its Facebook Page on Friday a few hours after political parties and civil society organizations convened at the organization’s gate to deliver a petition.
The local organizations that were led by the Political Party Assembly (PPA) delivered a petition asking the united nations to intervene in the dispute between the Eswatini government and its people.
Among other things, the parties asked the United Nations to appoint a high-level investigation team that will investigate the “ruthless killing of unarmed citizens with the view to take the head of state of the country to the International Criminal Court”.
They also called on the United Nations to facilitate dialogue between the nation and the country’s authorities.
“The process should be presided over by the UN as at local and regional levels there is no organization that has the confidence of the people of Eswatini,” read the petition.
The petition was delivered by 10 representatives from the PPA while many Emaswati were singing, dancing, and chanting political slogans outside of the UN’s offices in Mbabane.
