Acting Prime Minister Themba Masuku says there will be serious consequences to retailers who will offend or defy the alcohol ban directive.
Masuku was speaking during a press briefing at Cabinet offices of Wednesday where he announced a ban in alcohol sale and an extension to the measures restricting gathering that were announced by the government.
He said the the decision to estend the restrictions and banning the sale of alcohol is meant to disrupt the galloping spread of the virus adding that there will be consequences to any retail offending the measures.
“Any retailer who offends this directive will face serious consequences including the suspension of their trading license as it has happened recently to others.
Masuku warned that the ban of alcohol sales should not be a ticket for the black market and illegal home brews to emerge. He added that law enforcement agencies and Community Police will work closely with covid-19 Regional task teams to ensure compliance.
