Transport Workers will continue with their demonstrations in major cities until their demands are met.
This was confirmed by the Swaziland Transport Communication and Allied Workers union (SWATCAWU) Secretary General Sticks Nkambule in a statement on Wednesday.
On this day, transport workers staged demonstrations in various cities of the country which led to one worker being shot dead allegedly by a police officer.
The transport workers were calling for improved working conditions and rate of pay among other demands and their protest was felt by mostly the public transport users.
In the statement, Nkambule condemed the use of lethal force by the state security and announced that the protests will continue until their demands are met.
He revealed that the workers have joined the call for the release of incarcerated Members of Parliament and an end to the intended prosecution of MP Mduduzi Simelane who is currently on exile.
“Transport Workers have joined the call for the release of incarcerated honorable members of Parliament (MPs) being Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube. Call for an end to intended prosecution of MP Mduduzi Simelane,”said Nkambule.
He said the arrest of these MPs is impacting negatively in their line of duty in more ways than one.
He said they will engage the government on Thursday in order to find lasting solutions to the griviences.
