EEC and JA Eswatini Partner to Ignite STEM Passion in Pupils through Job Shadowing Program

EEC, in collaboration with JA Eswatini, has launched a 10-day job shadowing initiative aimed at inspiring pupils to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Five students from Maphiliongo, Mbuluzi, Kukhanyeni, and St. Mary’s High Schools were carefully selected to participate in this program, which places them in the heart of EEC’s operations.

During their tenure at EEC, the students are engaging with various divisions, including the National Control Centre, Telecommunications, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). This unique exposure offers them the chance to interact with seasoned engineers, delve into discussions about their career paths, and potentially secure mentors to guide them in making knowledgeable career decisions. EEC’s System Operations and Control unit has been specifically identified to provide an enriching learning environment for the participants.

About EEC’s SCADA:

The SCADA system at EEC is a sophisticated and crucial computer network, operational 24/7, which monitors and controls the company’s substations across the country. Comparable to a pilot’s cockpit, it provides a comprehensive view of the national network, managed and overseen from computer screens by skilled operators. This system plays an essential role in outage management and fault logging, utilizing advanced communication infrastructure including fibre optics, microwave radios, and digital UHF radios, all managed by Eswatini’s local expertise.
