Senate Manqoba Khumalo, the Acting Minister for Information, Communication, and Technology has come out to defend the 5G technology pointing out that there is no link between COVID-19 and this technology and therefore poses no harm to humans life and health.
In a statement dated January 18, 2020, the Acting Minister said that the false notion that the Coronavirus came with the development of 5G technology had no basis and is totally devoid of any truth as there is no link between the technology and the virus.
The Acting Minister’s statement follows an announcement made by the Eswatini Government to the effect that she has signed a 5G deal with the United State of America.
“While several countries have undertaken 5G trials or have rolled out 5G networks, it can be observed that these countries are affected by COVID-19 to the similar extent as those who are yet to start trials like Eswatini,” clarified Khumalo.
Khumalo also revealed that international bodies such as the International Telecommunication Union conducted a study to determine if the radiation of 5G could have adverse effects on human life and health. Khumalo said these studies revealed that the technology poses no risk to human life and health.
He advised Emaswati to avoid clamoring for unsubstantiated theories and stick to proven and tested non-pharmaceutical prevention measures.
