10 000 Emaswati took advantage of the voter’s registration grace period and register to participate in choosing the government of Eswatini during the upcoming election.

Speaking on the national radio station Eswatini Broadcasting Information and Services (EBIS), Elections and Boundaries Committee (EBC) clarified that more than 10 000 people has register during the grace period. They further voiced out that of yesterday, the committee recorded 535,769 Emaswati who were registered to vote during the upcoming election. It is hard to know for sure the exact number of people who are registered as the process is still going. If the committee’s words are anything to go by, this would mean that the committee has managed to register 91.5% of the population of Eswatini who are eligible to vote during the upcoming election which is about 585,597 people.

During the EBIS show, the committee further commended the youth for showing interest to the country by registering to vote. The committee revealed that 54% of the youth in the country has registered which they believe it is because the youth has an interest for developing the Kingdom of Eswatini. This means that more than 289,315 of people aged 18 to 34 have been registered to participate during the upcoming elections. It is hard to say that these people are registered because they are willing to vote because there is still that perception that the registration card can open doors such as government scholarships and greater job opportunities.

On further analysis, the committee added that as of today, the committee will be starting their verification process which will end on the 20 of July. They further stated that the chiefs will have the right of objecting people who are not suppose to vote on the areas that they wanted to vote at.
